By Nathan Pace. online editor Center Grove’s Cassidy Hardin was named Player of the Game in Saturday’s Indiana-Kentucky All-Star contest at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Hardin tied for a team-high 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in Indiana’s 83-70 win. The Purdue commit drilled two 3-pointers in the first half to help put Indiana up 43-31 at intermission. She had seven points and four rebounds in Friday's 92-87 loss to Kentucky at Bellarmine University. The 5-9 small forward averaged 17.5 points a game for the Trojans and led the team to a sectional crown. Hardin is the fifth Trojan to be named to the team and the first since 1999 (Emily Butler). Hardin won a state championship in doubles tennis with Isabella Schoolcraft her junior year. |

Senior staff writer Led by state champion discus thrower Sadie Hill, Perry Meridian’s girls track team finished fifth at the state finals June 1 at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at Indiana University Bloomington. Hill’s throw of 143 feet, 5 inches – a personal best – was nearly 6 feet farther than her nearest competitor. The multi-sport athlete will continue her career in basketball and track at Murray State University in Kentucky. “I’ve never coached a more intense competitor than her,” Ryan Teverbaugh posted on Twitter. The Falcons finished second and fourth in the 400-meter dash with Iyanla Hunter, 55.79 seconds, and Hannah Bargue, 56.98, respectively. Hunter also anchored the runner-up 4x400 relay team of Ali and Lexi Dale and Bargue, 3:51.14, only four-hundredths of a second behind Hamilton Southeastern. Cassandra Evans was sixth in discus with a throw of 131 feet. The Falcons scored 32 points; state champion Hamilton Southeastern tallied 62. Center Grove’s Kiyah Yeast was fourth, 11.90 seconds, in the 100 and sixth in the 200, 24.98 seconds. Yeast, a sophomore, also anchored the Trojans’ 4x100 relay, 48.20, with Julia Riley, Haley Goines and Ashley Wheat. In the boys meet June 2, Franklin Central sprinter Kyle Markland was seventh in the 100, 10.55, and ninth in the 200, 22.21. Teammate Malachi Quarles was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles. Center Grove’s Matt Fleener was sixth in the 400, 48.92, and was the second runner on the seventh-place 4x400 relay, 3:19.76, with Sam Hohlt, Gavin Matheson and Steven Mills. |
