Since the Marian University men’s football team is competing in the 60th annual NAIA Division II national championship Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla., we’ll start with that news.
The No. 6 Knights and No. 7 Southern Oregon University, both 11-2, have looked impressive in the playoff. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. on ESPN3.
These same teams played for the championship last year, with Southern Oregon winning 55-31.
The Knights boast nine players from area high schools: defensive back Daniel Rojas, wide receiver Jimmie Walker Jr., quarterback Kyler White, tight end Max Doughty, defensive back Kyle Steinebach, Jamar Wilhite, defensive back Griffin Elbert, linebacker Noah Grable and offensive lineman Jacob Oglesby.
The women’s basketball team fell to 8-3 when losing to Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky) 69-66 Dec. 12. The Knights travel to Webber International (Florida) Dec. 19 for a 3 p.m. game.
The men’s team, ranked No. 4, defeated Indiana University Kokomo 78-54 Dec. 13 to up its record to 12-0. Next up is home date at 3 p.m. Dec. 19 against Lourdes (Ohio).
The University of Indianapolis’ women’s squad will host Tiffin (Ohio) at 5:15 Dec. 17 before traveling to Ohio Domincan for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
UIndy’s men defeated Olivet Nazarene (Illinoise) 89-65 Dec. 12. The Greyhounds aren’t in action until hosting Governors State on Jan. 2.
