Decatur Central had it all Friday, blanking host McCutcheon 33-0.
The Hawks earned the right to host the Class 5A sectional championship game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3.
DC scored in every quarter while stopping the Mavericks.
“All three phases made a major impact in the game, as Ashton Vogel hit two field goals and had six touchbacks, Bo Polston threw for 274 yards and three TDs and Fa’Rel Carter had two interceptions,” reported Hawk coach Kyle Enright.
“Along with Bo’s big night, offensively, the Hawks got 133 yards and a TD from KC Berry, 161 yards and a TD from N’Po Dodo, and a receiving TD each from Halbert Aguirre and Chris Richmond.”
The defense also drew plaudits from the coach.
“The Hawks defense got its second shutout in a row as Coach Goodin had the D unit locked in on their assignments, and the boys executed the plan to perfection,” Enright continued. “Leading tacklers were Stephen Oyatayo, MJ Campbell, Halbert Aguirre and Mykul Campbell, while Chris Richmond and Fa’Rel Carter combined for three picks.”
Enright said this was indeed a team victory.
“Utilizing all the Hawks weapons was an emphasis in the game, and the Hawks’ ‘O’ got everyone involved early and often.” he noted. “The offensive line, consisting of Javian Jones, Alec Surber, Nate Calahan, Garrett Smith and Tyler Cooper, paved the way all night, leading the Hawks to 425 yards of offense and 33 points.
“The Hawks will look to continue their season this Friday against a very good Lafayette Harrison team at home for the sectional championship.”
