SUBMITTED PHOTO Roncalli seniors (from left) Louie Hibner, Justin Hornek, Justin Saylor, Calbe Bowling and Kyle Petroff have signed letters of intent to play football collegiately after leading the Rebels to two sectional championships and one regional title. Hibner, the Rebels’ 2015 Offensive Lineman of the Year, will play for coach Mark Henninger at Marian, where he plans to study business. Hibner served as team captain and is the son of John and Marie Finch-Hibner. Hornek will continue his football career at Knox College (Illinois) under Damon Tomeo. He plans on studying architecture and is the son of Alan and Stephanie Hornek. Saylor, who was named Indiana Mr. Football for defensive backs, signed to play football at the Air Force Academy for Troy Calhoun. Saylor, son of Dave and Gina Saylor, plans to study engineering. Bowling will play football at the University of Indianapolis for Bob Bartolomeo. Bowling, who was Roncalli’s 2015 Special Teams Player of the Year, plans to study physical therapy. He is the son of Harold and Samantha Bowling. Petroff will play at Valparaiso under the direction of Dave Cecchini. Petroff, who was a team captain and the Mental Attitude Award winner, plans on studying business. He is the son of Doug and Jessica Petroff.

SUBMITTED PHOTO Beech Grove junior Brent Strahla has been named the school’s Edward Jones Scholar Athlete of the Month. Seen with Edward Jones financial adviser Joy Wallace, Strahla played a key role in the Hornets winning the Indiana Crossroad Conference title with his two individual wins and two relay victories. He carries a 4.07 grade point average, which is seventh-best in his class, and is the son of Dondi and Crystal Strahla. |
