Senior staff writer Beech Grove’s boys swim team dominated the annual Indiana Crossroads Conference championships by winning nine of 12 events Saturday in the Hornets’ pool. Drew Boyce led the way by winning the 50-yard freestyle, 22.43 seconds, and 100 freestyle, 50.30, and being on the winning 200- and 400-freestyle relays. Shamar Gentle, Chris McManus, Janis Vuskalns and anchor Boyce were on the winning 200 relay, 1:39.39, and Andy Galvez, Logan Boyce, Jack Ulery and anchor Boyce were on the 400 relay, 3:41.12. Ulery also won the 200 freestyle, 1:55.24, and 400 freestyle, 5:02.09. Vuskalns won the 200-individual medley, 2:08.87, and 100 butterfly, 56.23 seconds. BG’s Kevin Kinder captured the 1-meter diving competition with 256.85 points. Vuskalns and Ulery were on the runner-up 200-medley relay with Trent Eckstein and Chase Williams. The Hornets amassed 182 points and placed eight swimmers on the all-conference team. Ritter was second with 141 points. Beech Grove’s girls team finished second. |
