With spring comes storms and bouts of bad weather. Unfortunately, your property doesn’t always escape nature’s wrath.
Please protect yourself from people posing as contractors, whose aim is to scam you out of money.
Here are a couple of tips to prevent you from becoming a victim of a scam or from having poor repairs conducted on your home.
If you live in Beech Grove, remember that a person who knocks on your door wanting to do work on your home or give you an estimate must have a permit from the city to solicit their services. If that person cannot produce a permit, close the door.
You can call the police at 327-3811 and report the solicitor.
Before contractors can do work in our city, they are required to be licensed and bonded for your protection. Don’t sign any agreement with any contractor until you find out if he is legitimate.
Most contractors do good work, but there are some who follow storms and prey on citizens, especially the elderly. Call us at 784-3003 to see is a contractor is licensed and bonded. Be sure to research contractors before you hire them.
Do not give money to any contractor until the work is done. If your contractor is licensed and bonded in Beech Grove, he is required to have a permit to work on your home, and we will conduct a final inspection after the work is completed.
