Lian Hnin of Perry Meridian was awarded the $1,200 Kiwanis Indiana District Foundation Scholarship, and Van Kuhn of Southport and Monica Tatarek of Roncalli received $600 Kiwanis Indiana District Foundation scholarships. Anna Zing of Perry Meridian, Rafael Galindo-Garcia of Southport and David “D.J.” Glander of Roncalli were awarded $600 Abe Lincoln scholarships.
The grants were presented by Dr. Frank Giles, associate superintendent of Perry Township Schools and the club’s scholarship chairman.
“We are indeed proud of these young people and their accomplishments, and we wish them every success in the future,” said club president Steve Hadley, who noted that the group’s annual fish fry – July 18 and 19 this year – plays a large role in funding the grants.
The club, which supports Rise Learning Center, Perry Senior Citizens, Hunger Inc., Baxter YMCA, Riley Hospital for Children and other groups, meets at 7 a.m. every Thursday at IHOP, 7521 S. U.S. 31, where visitors are welcome.
