Disaster! a ‘70s movie musical, opens Friday, May 31 at the Buck Creek Playhouse, 11115 Southeastern Ave., to conclude its 45th sea-son of entertainment on the city’s southeast-side. The musical, written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, runs through June 18 with curtain times at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Sundays. Disaster! takes place in 1979 with the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to earthquakes, tidal waves and so much more! As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they’ve lost or at least escape. Unforgettable songs of the ‘70s are performed, including “Knock on Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I Am Woman” and “Hot Stuff.” The cast features Joi Blalock, Allie Buchanan, Michael Davis, Scott Fleshood, Emily Gaddy, Jessica Hawkins, Joe Wagner, Laura Duvall-Whitson and Corey Yeaman. D. Scott Robinson returns to direct after most recently directing productions of After the Fair (January/February 2019) and Dog fight (June 2018). Admission is $20 for adults and $18 for students and senior citizens (ages 62 and over). Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Reservations are recommended. The adventurous young mermaid Ariel and her friends take the stage as Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, beginning Thursday through June 30.
The magical undersea kingdom features King Triton's youngest daughter, Ariel, who wishes to leave her ocean home to explore the world above. When she rescues the human Prince Eric, Ariel can’t wait any longer and she makes a bargain with Ursula, the sea witch, to trade her tail for legs. But when things go wrong, Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea. With all of the fun of the Disney film, The Little Mermaid features the songs “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World.” Sarah Daniels, who recently made her Beef & Boards debut as Sandy in Grease, returns in the title role. Also returning from the Grease cast is Nate Willey (Kenickie) as Prince Eric. Kelly Teal Goyette (Miss Hannigan in Annie; Dragon in Shrek, Madame de la Grande Bouche in Beauty and the Beast) returns as Ursula, the sea witch. Beef & Boards’ production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid is directed by Elizabeth Stark Payne and choreographed by Ron Morgan, with musical director Terry Woods. Disney’s The Little Mermaid is on stage for 48 performances. Tickets range $45 to $70 ($10 Family Show discount off tickets for kids ages 3-15), and include Chef Odell Ward’s family-friendly dinner buffet, fruit and salad bar, unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade.
