Manual High School’s Classes of 1955 and ’56 will hold their annual reunion picnic from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Ray Skillman Classic Car Museum, 1250 S. U.S. 31, Greenwood. Car Show, Music and a Movie
The second annual Drive-In for Alzheimer’s Car Show and Movie gets underway at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Tibbs Drive-in, 480 S. Tibbs Ave. Special awards will be presented for the coolest and most unusual cars and the People’s Choice. The band Mindlewood will perform, and the movie “Rush” starts at dusk. Admission is $20 per car, with $10 going to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana. Cars can be registered at driveittothedrivein.com.
Rummage Sale, Canned Food Drive, Car Wash
Lighthouse Let Your Light Shine, 1006 S. Troy Ave., is holding a canned food drive and a big yard sale from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The sale will feature furniture, clothing, jewelry, household items and a lot of miscellaneous stuff. The rain date is Sept. 17. The center, which provides services for the needy and homeless, will also host a car wash from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The cost is $5.
Oktobest Opens Sept. 8 at German Park
The German-American Klub, 8600 S. Meridian St., will hold its annual Oktoberfest Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 8-11. The end-of-summer bash will feature live music, German food and beer and strolling magicians. A host of musicians are scheduled to perform, including The Indianapolis Liederkranz Brass Band, The Original Alpine Express, Jay Fox & the Bavarian Showtime Band, die Fledermäuschen Tanzgruppe, PolkaMotion, Henry Lee Summer (8-10 p.m. Sept. 8), Tastes Like Chicken (8-11 p.m. Sept. 9) and Flatbed Twitch (8-11 p.m. Sept. 10). Gates open at 4 p.m. daily, and admission is $5 per person ($5 per family Sept. 11); children ages 12 and under will be admitted free. Southport Class of 1960 Reunion
Southport High School’s Class of 1960 will hold its annual reunion Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10. Festivities will get underway Friday with the former classmates attending the Southport-Terre Haute football game; kick off is at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday a dinner program will be held from 4-9 p.m. at the old high school at 7 p.m. Info: Fred Shonk at 371-7654.
Book Sale
Calvary Lutheran Church, 6111 Shelby St., is holding a book sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The event will feature books (25 cents to $1) for adults and children.
