PHOTO BY GARY NELSON The happy-go-lucky tale of small-town vice and statewide political sidestepping will be told in Footlite Musicals’ production of “The Best Little Whoreouse in Texas,” which features Steven Allen and Molly Campbell. Opening Friday for a three-weekend run, the adult-themed show recounts the good times and the demise of the Chicken Ranch, known as one of the better pleasure palaces in all of Texas. Governors, senators, mayors and even victorious college football teams frequent Miss Mona’s cozy bordello until a puritanical TV newsman focuses his cameras and his righteous indignation on the institution. Curtain time at the Hedback Community Theatre, 1847 N. Alabama St., is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, priced from $10 to $23, can be reserved by calling 317-926-6630.

Buck Creek Players will once again celebrate the Christmas season with its presentation of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.” The production transposes the television classic to the theater by staging the story as if it were a 1940s live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience. Five actors perform the voices of dozens of characters while a sound man helps create the atmosphere. As in the film, George Bailey must learn that “no man is a failure who has friends” (and a little divine intervention). Curtain time is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 1-17 at 11150 Southeastern Ave. Tickets, priced at $16 and $18, can be reserved by calling 317-862-2270 or visiting www.buckcreekplayers.com. |
