SUBMITTED PHOTO Catherine Howie, an artist and photographer who takes pictures with her iPhone, be the featured guest at the Art Bank’s First Friday program from 1-8 p.m. Aug. 7. “In each of my works for this show the viewer will find a payoff for staying with an image longer than normal,” sail Howie, who hails from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and resides in Fishers. “I absolutely love it when I see the aha in a patron’s eyes. The interaction between art and viewer is electric. My art constantly interprets and challenges me to work through the big questions, Who am I? Why am I here? How do society and community work well?” The gallery is located at 811 Massachusetts Ave. Info 624-1010.

Buck Creek Players will wrap up its 41st season with its annual play-a-part fundraiser, in which some of the roles were awarded to the highest bidders through an online auction. The play for this year’s production is “The Music Man,” which pairs veteran performers with first-timers to give the classical musical a comedic twist much like “The Carol Burnett Show.” An affectionate paean to Smalltown, U.S.A., of a bygone era, the show follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the town’s librarian. Curtain times at the playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave., are 8 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1 and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2. Tickets are $25 and can be reserved by calling 862-2270 or visiting www.buckcreekplayers.com. Discounts are available for parties of 10 or more when tickets are purchased online. |
