Footlite Musicals will kick off its 63rd season Friday with “Into the Woods.” The production, which features actors between 18 and 25 years of age, follows a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

SUBMITTED PHOTOS Karen Stanley, an artist who specializes in impressionistic landscapes and still life subjects in oil, is exhibiting her work throughout the month at the Southside Art League. Stanley said her love of art was initially inspired by her father’s sketching and wood carving. Her first exposure to painting was in the medium of watercolor, but she has focused on oil as a medium since 2010. “My goal is to capture the spirit, color and light of a given scene or subject matter that drew me to it in the first place,” said Stanley, whose work can be viewed from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at the gallery, 299 E. Broadway St., Greenwood |
