Free Lawn Care Classes
Ready or not, the grass will be growing soon. And that’s why Dick Huber, a master gardener, is hosting free lawn care classes. Huber will discuss the best mowing techniques, proper timing for pre-emergent crabgrass herbicide, broadleaf weed control, aeration, fertilizing and more. Registration for Baxter YMCA’s Preschool
Registration for students new to Baxter YMCA’s preschool begins Monday. The program, designed for children ages 2-5, is offered in the morning and afternoons for two, three, four or five days a week. Gardening Program at Bethany Lutheran Church
A series of gardening workshops at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4702 S. East St., begins with a community meal at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6. Subsequent classes, designed for beginning or experienced gardeners, are March 27, April 10 and 24 and May 1 and 22. There will be individual plots and community garden space available at the church. Since the area is not supported by an active neighborhood association, the workshops in April will also focus on concerns of residents. “We hope to build the community through gardening,” said Bruce Bye,” who is helping to organize the program. “We will offer free baby-sitting, and children are welcome to participate.” Info: 317-783-7283.
World Day of Prayer
Sporting the theme of “All God’s creation is very good,” World Day of Prayer will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Center United Methodist Church, 5445 Bluff Road, and 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 75 N. 10th Ave. Beech Grove. The program material was prepared by the women of Suriname, a small country on the northeastern coast of South America.
